Fabric & leather protection

You didn't spend that on a couch to be scared of it.

Red wine. The dog on the back seat. A toddler with a juice box. SoftGuard makes the spill sit up in a bead on the surface, so you have time to blot it before it goes into the fibre.

Fabric and leather. One product, both.

Less product. Better protection.

This runs against instinct, and it is the single most important thing to know about SoftGuard. Most protectors tell you to apply generously. Ours does not — and it costs us money to say so.

1

Over-applying works against you

Lay it on heavy and the treated fabric repels worse, not better. The wetting agents that help the product spread stay behind on the fibre — and they attract water.

2

Light coats beat one heavy one

Two or three light passes give far more even cover than a single soaking — using the same total product, not more. Even cover is what makes protection last.

3

More coats does not mean more product

Work out what a job needs from the area, not the number of coats. A 100 m² job needs the same litres whether you put it down in one pass or three.

Why this matters if you do it for a living. Most call-backs on fabric protection are application failures, not product failures. That free trip back across town is the margin on the job. Get the method right and the treatment holds. Read the full method or work out what a job needs.

We will tell you what it won't do

This is a category full of big words. Here is the honest version, up front, so you find the limits from us and not from a ruined couch.

What it does

  • Repels water-based spills on treated fabric and leather
  • Holds the spill up on the surface so it can be blotted
  • Buys you time to react before it soaks in
  • Does not change the look, feel or breathability of the material
  • Covers 8 to 10 m² per litre, in total, however many coats

What it does not do

  • It is not waterproofing, and nothing is stainproof
  • It is not permanent — re-treat after cleaning or heavy wear
  • It does not clean. The surface must be clean and dry before treating.
  • It is not a flame retardant — that is a different product entirely
  • It will not save a spill you leave overnight
